About: General Information
My name is Tom McDonald. I enjoy programming — computer software, web development, anything. It's what I'm good at. I also enjoy graphic design. I'm not terribly good at it, though. Occasionally, I can come up with something that looks decent.
How do you pronounce that?
tommcdo is made from my name, Tom McDonald. So, it's pronounced tom-mik-doh. It was my user name for the computers in high school. Then it became user name for just about everything.
Home
I live in Windsor, Ontario — the automotive capital of Canada. Each of the big three — Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler — has large manufacturing plants around here. It follows that there are a lot of cars in this city. That explains the poor air quality and horrible public transit system, which I, unfortunately, am dependent on for school.
School
I'm a student at the University of Windsor. The full title of my major is a mouthful: Honours Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence Specialization. I'm also working through a double minor in Business Administration and Mathematics. It's a bunch of fun.
Why am I taking Computer Science in school? I want to be a computer scientist, of course. I could have taken the easier route and worked for General Motors, Chrysler, or Ford straight out of high school, but my heart belongs to computer science.
Computers
I am a Linux user. My home computer runs a Linux distribution called Kubuntu — the KDE companion of Ubuntu, which is becoming one of the most popular Linux distributions out there.
I am not a Windows user. I used to be, but I grew out of it.
